Chemical Peels

The chemical peel is one of the oldest cosmetic procedures in the world, and is used to help people achieve smoother, more beautiful skin. Today, chemical facial peels are popular because they offer nearly immediate results and can be performed in as little as half an hour. If you want to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring and uneven pigmentation, or if you simply want to rejuvenate your skin, Mullica Hill Skincare will help you achieve that!

Typically administered as a facial peel, a chemical peel enhances and smoothens the texture of the skin. It is an effective treatment for facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation.

GLYCOLIC ACID PEEL

The glycolic acid peel is an excellent treatment to diminish the ravaging effects of time and to enhance the skin's overall appearance. Glycolic acid is designed to loosen dead cells from the skin leaving a clean, fresh look. Cosmeceuticals are then applied to supplement the skin and to assist in correcting specific conditions. This medical grade glycolic acid peel is available in four different strengths - 30%, 40%, 50% and 70%. Your medical aesthetician will determine which strength to use according to your skin type.

BETA LIFT PEEL

The Beta Lift is a state of the art chemical peel that has redefined the traditional superficial peel. This treatment uses beta hydroxy acid and is used primarily to reduce acne lesions and enlarged pores. This peel will exfoliate dead skin cells and will stimulate a burst of renewal within the skin to bring fresh, healthy, young living cells to the surface. Beta Lift is also able to penetrate the skin follicles making it a well suited peel for conditions such as acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation and enlarged pores.

VI PEEL

The Vi Peel is a pharmaceutical-grade chemical peel, that is produced by Vitality Institute Medical Products, a manufacturer of medical-grade skin care treatments that are meant to address the signs of aging and common skin damage problems. The manufacturing company believes that the Vi Peel can help reduce the effects of sun damage and reduce signs of melasma. The main thrust of the Vi Peel is an attempt at reducing the pain and discomfort commonly associated with chemical peels, although results vary between patients.

The peel is designed to be used for treating teenage acne as well as acne on aging skin. Vi Peel can usually be used with any skin type, but people with a darker complexion do run a higher risk for hyperpigmentation.

As with any facial chemical peel, Vi Peel works when your cosmetic professional doctor spreads a chemical evenly across the skin. The chemical reacts with the skin and creates micro damage that causes skin to blister and peel off, thus removing the top layers of skin to allow new tissue to grow more easily. The damage caused to the skin on the one hand removes older skin cells, and at the same time helps stimulate collagen production, in order to heal the skin faster.

Why are the Vi peels better than many other medical grade chemical peels?

One of the differences between a Vi Peel and other chemical peels is that Vi Peel is contains an anesthetic. This was an attempt to lower patient discomfort during this professional skin care procedure. Patients using Vi Peel usually report feeling a stinging sensation at the beginning of peel, which tends to subside when the anesthetic sets in.

What Areas Can Be Treated by Vi Peel?

Chemical peels, in general, are designed to improve the overall condition of the skin, and can usually be used on many areas of the body. However, it's important to keep in mind that sensitive areas like the eye lids should be avoided because the skin is too thin, and incorrect application, especially if the peel is not performed by a medical skin care specialist, can lead to serious skin damage. Some areas that are commonly treated with Vi Peel include:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Hands
  • Chest

How Many Treatments Are Required?

As with most chemical peels, to maintain the effects of treatment, follow-up procedures are recommended every three to four months. In the initial treatment process, patients can undergo Vi Peel treatments every two weeks. However, rigorous use of the Vi Peel is not recommended as a long-term treatment option by cosmetic professional physicians at Mullica Hill Skincare centers.

What shall I expect when the Vi peel is used on the skin?

It normally takes about four days for skin to properly heal from a Vi Peel treatment. During the healing process, skin will slough off and may look flushed or red. You should not put any skin care product on your face besides moisturizer until your skin has completely healed.

What precautions do I need to make sure of a safe Vi Peel experience?

Anyone that has a history of skin rashes, allergies, or other reactions to skin care treatments should first consult cosmetic professional physicians or skin care specialist before attempting to use Vi Peel. As with all chemical peels, Vi Peel carries risks of skin damage and a prolonged recovery period, if not applied correctly. It is very important that you tell your doctor ahead of time if you suffer from frequent cold sores, as this could lead to complications. Your cosmetic professional physicians may prescribe medication to combat these eruptions before attempting the Vi Peel treatment.

What makes this Vi Peel so effective? And what all is this Vi Peel made up of?

Vi Peel consists of a blend of trichloroacetic acid, Retin-A, salicylic acid, phenol and vitamin C. Retin-A is a proven wrinkle fighter, TCA can relieve the skin of fine wrinkles and surface blemishes, salicylic acid is an exfoliant and an anti-inflammatory agent, vitamin C stimulates collagen and battles wrinkles and hyperpigmentation and phenol provides long lasting solutions to major issues such as deep set wrinkles. On their own, Retin-A and TCA are more moderate peels, while phenol is even harsher; improvements after a phenol peel can be dramatic and last many years. But side effects are more likely to occur and are more severe. These include permanent sun sensitivity and permanent de-pigmentation of the skin. The latter is the major reason that cosmetic professional physicians do not recommend phenol peels for dark-skinned individuals.

Microdermabrasion

WHAT IS MICRODERMABRASION?

Microdermabrasion is a simple, straight forward, non-invasive procedure that revitalizes dull skin, reduces large pores, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, reduces mild pigment irregularities (hyperpigmentation) and age spots and can be done in less than 30 minutes! There are two ways to perform microdermabrasion:

  • Crystal microdermabrasion involves the blasting of microscopic crystals onto the skin's surface, exfoliating it.
  • With diamond microdermabrasion, the wand used in the procedure has a diamond-tipped head that acts an abrasive.

For both methods, the wand device we use is equipped with a vacuum that removes the dead skin that is exfoliated.

Afterwards, your skin will feel very smooth and very clean. You may feel as though you have a mild windburn or sunburn. Our aestheticians will apply a hydrating, soothing mask followed by chemical free sunblock.

While microdermabrasion is not right for all skin problems, it's quickly becoming our most popular procedure.

Take the Elastiderm SNAP test and find out. Whether you're looking to preserve, maintain or restore the elasticity in your skin, Elastiderm has been proven to help at any age. Give yourself a simple snap test under your eye. If your skin stays pinched at all after you let go, that means the elastin and collagen in your skin have been broken down by sun damage or the normal aging process. Don't worry, you CAN bring back the SNAP! Only Elastiderm can help restore that elasticity. If your skin quickly snaps back into place, you've still got SNAP, but you'll want to maintain the health and elasticity of your skin with Elastiderm before sun and the aging process take the SNAP away.

Latisse

Obagi Logo

Latisse is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or not having enough eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.

Latisse makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient, bimatroprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is not know, research suggests that the growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen (or growth) phase. Lashes can grow longer, thicker and darker because bimatroprost can also prolong this growth phase.

Latisse is easy to use, FDA approved and effective. It's a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. Patients in a clinical trial gradually saw results over time (starting at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks).

Laser Peels

Micro-Laser Peel

At Mullica Hill Skincare and Dr. Malik's Cosmetic centers, we are proud to introduce the newest skin rejuvenating procedure, the Micro-Laser Peel™. This remarkable new peel offers our patients immediate, but lasting results with minimal discomfort, and minimal time off. The Micro-laser Peel is very effective in eliminating age spots, acne scars, blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles. Laser energy intensely stimulates new collagen growth as well, leaving your skin tighter, healthier and looking younger. The MicroLaserPeel, can literally take years off of your face!

The MicroLaserPeel is an intra-epidermal laser peel that precisely ablates the outermost layers of the skin. Laser peel precisely removes the very superficial layers of the skin and the treatment can individually customized to the nature of the problem being treated. The depth of the peel is regulated and can be as minimal as 10 microns or as deep as 50 microns. The precision in Sciton Joule technology allows for perfect coverage and uniform ablation with minimal discomfort that was not possible with other laser systems or high grade chemical peels.

South Beach Peel™

South Beach Peel combines Broadband Light (BBL) treatment done initially and then followed by a MicroLaser Peel using the Sciton Joule Laser platform. Brown spots or freckles are removed with the BBL, while the MicroLaser Peel removes the outermost layers of the skin for a smooth glow. Patients see a great improvement in sun damaged spots, fine lines and wrinkles as a result of collagen tightening due to this combination treatment. All it takes is 30-45 minutes of your time.

After the treatment, pigmented spots will turn dark and your will experience mild redness and warmth, a sunburn like sensation. Over the next 3-5 days you will see sloughing of the outer layers of skin. Redness may persist up to seven days and can be covered by using makeup on sixth day and onwards. The number of treatments depends on your skin's condition and desired results. South Beach Peel is great for the face, neck, décolleté and hands.

It is recommended to have the treatment done once every 6 months to maintain the results and for anti-aging of skin.

Manhattan Peel

The ProFractional laser treatment and a Broadband Light treatment are administered back-to-back during this laser peel which significantly improves skin texture, helping to smooth acne scars, fine lines as well as sun damage in the form of age spots, sun spots, redness, freckles and other forms of unwanted pigment caused by environmental factors.

Arctic Peel™ / Blizzard Laser Peel / Nano Peel

The Arctic Peel, Blizzard Peel and Nano Peels are all similar laser peels. They are slightly less aggressive than the MicroLaserPeel but a step more advanced than a chemical peel. The Arctic and Blizzard Peels do not remove as many of the outer layers of the epidermal skin. Therefore, this peel does not require the use of a topical anesthetic gel. Rather, these laser peels use very cold air on the skin to achieve adequate anesthesia, hence the name of this laser peel. The results are a fresher, tighter look to your skin. This is an excellent "jump start" to a good skin care program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MicroLaserPeel?

It is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratosis, or pigmentation problems.

Who should consider a MicroLaserPeel?

The patient looking for better results than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels can offer, yet, still has minimal down time for the healing process.

How is the MicroLaserPeel different from Microdermabrasion?

Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Patients may become dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal expense and the number of procedures required.

The MicroLaserPeel is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20-50 microns). Because this procedure goes deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels.

How often does a MicroLaserPeel need to be done?

One procedure could be sufficient for at least 6 to12 months, but additional procedures can be performed as required. A package of three to four treatments is best suited in most scenarios. Individualized complementary consultation will be done to evaluate you for the appropriate level of the treatment and to discuss the various options available.

What can the patient expect?

Smoother, healthier more vibrant skin. You will notice a significant and immediate change in skin texture and tightness. The results are manifold better compared to microdermabrasion or light chemical peels.

What type anesthesia is used?

A topical anesthetic is applied before the procedure. The procedure is well tolerated by most people.

Do I have to wear any type dressing or bandage after the procedure?

No dressings are required. We will prescribe an ointment such as Aqua fore or Vaseline or other skincare products appropriate for you. This is used as a barrier to keep the air away from your skin while you grow new skin layer (epithelium). You will probably use it for one to two days after the procedure.

How long is the healing process?

The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take from two to four days. The procedure can be performed on Thursday or Friday and you can return to work the following Monday. Immediately following the procedure you will feel as if you have bad sunburn. You will have minor sloughing and itchiness the following day. By day two, redness will begin to fade and by day three any redness can be easily covered by makeup.

How much does the "Weekend" MicroLaserPeel™ cost?

Treatment price will vary and can be determined with a complimentary consultation at Mullica Hill Skincare centers located close to you in Philadelphia Metro area. Please contact us to schedule your complimentary individualized consultation by calling (856) 478-4700.
